Before enrolling in an online class, it is important to understand that online coursework is not an easier way to learn, but rather a more convenient one. While online classes are more convenient in the sense that you do not have to attend class at a designated time, online coursework does require self-discipline and initiative. In order to successfully accomplish online classes, you will need to dedicate a significant amount of time to your studies by logging in frequently to your (for Â鶹´«Ã½ Online classes) or (for eCore classes).

As an adult learner, you probably work a full-time job, and you may be dedicated to providing for your family. We commend you for returning to school to further your education! We don’t want you to become overwhelmed, so we recommend taking between 2-4 classes a semester. Although this may prolong your educational journey, it is important to effectively balance work, school, and family time to ensure you do not become overwhelmed. Please refer to the videos and link below for some additional tips and tricks as an adult learner.

You will want to make sure your browser (Firefox, Safari, etc.) has been updated to a version that Â鶹´«Ã½ supports. On the eLearning login page, you will find a link for system check. It is possible that you will need plug-ins, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader and others. Running a check with the browser checker should tell you which plug-ins you have and don't have. Some courses also use audio or audio/video presentations. You may need to have installed to see and hear these presentations. There are also some optional videos that require the installation of

Before beginning an exam or assignment be sure to check your internet access. Technological glitches are common and can happen at the most inconvenient times. Be sure to always save your assignments on a personal flash drive or on Google Documents so you can access them if needed. Also, it is always a good idea to write down your professor’s contact information in case you need to contact him or her with any issues or concerns.

• Tips on browser usage (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.)
• Basic email usage
• How to navigate through Windows

To be counted present the following must be completed:

• Log in to eLearning@Â鶹´«Ã½ (D2L) on the first day of class using your Â鶹´«Ã½ credentials.
• Take the Mandatory Attendance Quiz in each of your Â鶹´«Ã½ Online classes.
• Complete the Introduction Discussions Activity in each of your Â鶹´«Ã½ Online classes.
• Complete any other attendance requirement activity your instructor has assigned in each of your Â鶹´«Ã½ Online classes.

See your student schedule in Banner for class start date and log-in deadline for the session in which you are enrolled.

You must log in to your Â鶹´«Ã½ Online class or risk being withdrawn from the course.

If you are enrolled in more than one Â鶹´«Ã½ Online class, you must complete the start-up activities and the Mandatory Attendance Quiz in each class you are enrolled in this term.

All Â鶹´«Ã½ undergraduate students enrolled in an online class are required to take at least one proctored activity (i.e., exam) per course. Please be aware that there are additional fees associated with proctored exams. There are a few options as to how you can take a proctored exam. Some options are to take it in person at an approved testing center or online through a virtual proctoring service (i.e., , , or ). Before taking your examination through a virtual proctoring service, you will want to make sure you have a reliable webcam and microphone and a private quiet space to take the exam in. Please make sure to read your syllabus as some Â鶹´«Ã½ Online courses have specific requirements for their proctored exams.

It is important to have a study space that is quiet, organized, distraction-free, and available to access at any time. Whether it is a library, office, or bedroom, find a space where you are able to sit down and focus on your schoolwork.

Your performance can be affected if you are feeling tired or frustrated while studying. Be sure to schedule small breaks in-between your study times. A small activity, such as walking around the block, will help clear your mind and renew your energy to continue tackling your coursework.

There is always a light at the end of the tunnel! Although there will be times when you feel overwhelmed, the semester will always come to an end. Keep pushing forward and find small personal motivators to help you reach your end goal!

We understand assignments can pile up fairly quickly, so try not to procrastinate. It is important to ensure you are making effective use of your time. We recommend creating a calendar or using a chart or planner to plan out your study times. You can also create to-do lists and set specific deadlines for yourself to ensure you are remaining up to date on all your assignments.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! It can be easy to misinterpret the instructions on an assignment. Online students do not have the advantage of raising their hands to ask the professor a question in class. Instead, you will need to contact your professor by phone, email, or Skype if you need help clarifying concepts, assignments, discussions, etc. The more you ask, the more you know!
